Which types of bicycles are permitted for participation?+

Both Mountain Bikes (MTB) and Gravel Bikes are allowed across all distances. Participants must use the same bike throughout their entire race.

When and where do the main race activities take place?+

The 36ONE MTB Challenge runs from 21 to 23 May 2027. Registration and 'The Challenge' start on 21 May, while 'The Half' begins on 22 May. All central activities, including prize-giving, are hosted at Kleinplaas Holiday Resort in Oudtshoorn.

Yes, both races have cut-off times. 'The Challenge' has a final cut-off of 36.1 hours (by 03:00 on 23 May) and several intermediate checkpoints. 'The Half' has a 16.5-hour cut-off (by 22:00 on 22 May), also with intermediate checkpoints.

Is external support allowed at the event?+

The race is a full-service event, meaning external support is not mandatory. However, riders are permitted to have a support crew at designated checkpoints only. Support outside these areas will result in disqualification.

What mandatory equipment must riders carry?+

Participants are required to wear a helmet at all times, use a suitable bicycle headlight, and have a flashing red rear light. Failure to have the required lighting will prevent a rider from starting.
