The 90km Lake District Gravel Epic is a demanding off-road adventure featuring 2,150m of climbing, navigating challenging ascents and fast, flowing sections across varied technical gravel, singletrack, and forest roads. It is considered one of the organizers' hardest routes.
Visit official site →This event caters to regular and experienced off-road cyclists seeking a significant challenge, particularly those comfortable with technical terrain and sustained climbing.
Riders new to gravel or those unprepared for significant elevation, rocky sections, and potentially short hike-a-bike portions will find the longer routes particularly difficult.
Training should prioritize sustained climbing ability, technical bike handling skills for varied off-road surfaces, and endurance for long distances over challenging terrain.

Participants can choose from three routes: a 90km long route with 2,150m of climbing, a 66km medium route featuring 1,500m of elevation gain, and a 50km short route with 1,200m of ascent.
The course offers a diverse off-road experience, including smooth gravel fire roads, challenging climbs, rocky technical sections, remote trails, bridleways, and singletrack, with some short hike-a-bike sections. While designed for gravel bikes, a hardtail mountain bike is also suitable, and wider all-rounder gravel tyres (40-50mm) are recommended.
The event features fully signed routes, checkpoints offering food like tea, coffee, cake, sandwiches, and crisps approximately every 30-40km. Mechanics will be available at the rider village and selected feed stops, and rider support vans are on call for major mechanicals or pickups. GPX files will also be provided.
On September 12th, 2026, the ride village in Coniston opens at 7:45 am, with the ride starting between 8:00 am and 8:45 am after a brief briefing. The rider village closes at 6:00 pm, and ride times and photos will be emailed to participants by 7:00 pm.
Yes, specifically for the short route, you have the flexibility to choose on the day. If you reach Hawkshead at 43km and your legs are tired, you can take the shorter 7km return to base; otherwise, if you are feeling strong, you can continue onto the medium route.
