A short-travel mountain bike, either a hardtail or full suspension, is suitable. A gravel bike could also work, but some of the numerous descents and rocky sections demand strong bike handling skills. Regardless of choice, the bike should have decent off-road tires and be in good mechanical condition.
There are three main distance options: 105 miles (169 km), 198 miles (319 km), and 298 miles (480 km). The 100-mile route covers the southern half, while the 200 and 300-mile versions explore the full length of the Cotswolds AONB with entirely different return legs.
Riders will navigate a diverse range of off-road surfaces including bridleways, byways, singletrack, woodland trails, and purpose-built mountain bike sections. Expect many steep climbs and descents, often laden with rocks and roots, requiring high technical skill.
Yes, this is a self-supported bikepacking adventure. Registration includes an event information pack, a comprehensive route guide, detailed OS maps, GPX files, and public liability insurance. For the 100-mile route, a bag transfer option to a halfway campsite is available for an overnight stay.
