FAQs

What type of bike and tires are recommended?+

Gravel or mountain bikes are recommended, with tire widths of 45mm or wider. A low gear ratio, such as 38T x 52T, is suggested for the long and steep climbs in Colombia.

What is the typical climate like?+

Colombia's climate varies by altitude. Expect hot and humid conditions below 1,500m (up to 40°C), temperate weather between 1,500m and 2,500m (18-25°C), and cold conditions above 2,500m (9-17°C), with temperatures potentially dropping to 4°C in páramos, where rain is common.

How will I navigate the route?+

The route is not marked. Participants must use a cycling computer or navigation app loaded with the provided GPX, KML, or FIT file, and are responsible for having and knowing how to use such a device.

Is there any logistical support provided during the event?+

A broom wagon follows the last group to pick up participants who cannot continue, and carries basic repair tools. However, receiving assistance from the broom wagon leads to disqualification, and riders are responsible for their own repairs.

Where can I find food and water on the route?+

Human settlements are relatively frequent, with typically no more than 40 km between places to resupply. However, high mountain passes (páramos) are in protected areas without infrastructure, and river/lake water is not safe to drink due to livestock.

What essential equipment should I bring?+

Mandatory items include a helmet, front and rear lights, and medical insurance. Recommended gear includes a waterproof jacket, comfortable shoes for pushing, a cycling computer, a repair kit, a portable battery, and insect repellent.
