Training should focus on sustained, consistent efforts over rolling terrain and building endurance for off-road riding, rather than intense hill climbing power or advanced technical skills.

There are two routes: a long route covering 85km with 800m of elevation, rated as a 3-star ride difficulty and 2-star technical difficulty. The medium route is 60km with 550m of elevation, rated 2-star ride difficulty and 2-star technical difficulty.
The event features predominantly off-road terrain, with the long route being 80% off-road and the medium route 90% off-road. Riders can expect smooth fire roads, gravel tracks, green lanes, farm tracks, and bridleways. Conditions can range from fast-rolling hard-packed mud when dry to muddy and slippery sections with puddles when wet.
Gravel bikes are the primary recommendation for this route, though a hardtail mountain bike would also be suitable. For dry conditions, standard all-rounder gravel tires (35-45mm) are advised. If the weather is wet, wider, knobbly tires are suggested for better grip in the mud.
The routes are fully signed, and GPX files are provided. There are checkpoints approximately every 30-40km offering food like tea, coffee, cake, sandwiches, and crisps. Mechanics will be available at the rider village and selected feed stops. Support vans can assist with major mechanicals or collection. At the finish line, riders will receive a beer, and food will be available from a food truck.
Yes, the routes split at 29km, allowing riders to choose between the long and medium options at that point.
On October 10th, the rider village opens at 7:45 am for number collection. Ride starts are staggered between 8:15 am and 8:45 am, with a women's wave at 8:30 am. The rider village closes at 6:00 pm, and ride times and photos will be emailed by 7:00 pm.
