FAQs

What are the available distances and their challenges?+

The Grande option is 85 miles with 2073 meters of climbing, including 38 miles of gravel. The Medio option is 45 miles with 914 meters of climbing, including 21 miles of gravel. Both courses feature significant climbs and are considered hard rides.

What type of bike and tires are recommended for the course?+

The course consists of fairly smooth and fast-rolling gravel. While some fast riders may opt for endurance road bikes with 30-32mm tires, most participants prefer a dedicated gravel bike with 36-38mm tires for comfort. For maximum comfort and self-reliance, 40+mm tires on a touring/bikepacking bike are also suitable.

What should I expect regarding weather conditions?+

As an early-season event, weather is highly unpredictable, similar to European spring classics. The average temperature is around 55 degrees Fahrenheit, but riders should be prepared for any conditions, bringing versatile gear like leg/arm warmers and a packable wind jacket.

Is this a competitive race, and what are the rules?+

This event is a Gran Fondo, not a race. Riders must obey all traffic laws. However, times for all finishers will be posted for personal bragging rights.

When does registration open and close?+

Registration opens on January 1st and closes on April 9th. Due to limited spots and high demand, the event tends to fill up very quickly, so early registration is strongly recommended.

What support is provided on the course?+

The course is well-marked and features well-stocked aid stations. For the Grande course, aid stations are at approximately miles 26, 46, and 62. The Medio course has one aid station around mile 22.7. Riders should still plan for their personal nutrition and hydration needs.
