The 40-mile point-to-point course travels from downtown Hayward, WI, over the American Birkebeiner Ski Trail and along picturesque trails of varying terrain, finishing in Cable, WI.
Yes, aid stations are located at Mile 12 (Gravel Pit), Mile 18 (OO), and Mile 30 (High Point), offering Neversecond energy gels, fuel bars, and sports drink mix.
Riders must reach Aid Station 1 (Mile 12) by 11:45 AM, Aid Station 2 (Mile 18) by 12:33 PM, Aid Station 3 (Mile 30) by 2:15 PM, and complete the course by 4:00 PM (6 hours after the 10:00 AM start) to avoid a DNF.
Corral placement is based on your best Chequamegon 40 results from 2019-2025. New participants or those without a race resume will be placed in the last start gate.
Riders typically drop bikes at the start in Hayward, drive to Cable to park at the finish, and then take a pre-race bus back to the start. There is no post-event bussing.
